Teresa Leonor Ribeiro Cardoso Martins Morgado

Teresa Leonor Ribeiro Cardoso Martins Morgado is ph. D in Mechanical Engineering by Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon University, Master in Mechanical Engineering option of Materials and Manufacturing Processes by Faculty of Engineering of the Porto University. The Doctor's Thesis title is "Structural Integrity of Railway Component". The Master's Thesis title is "Characterization of Orthotropy in Carbon Epoxy Plates Using Interferometric Techniques." Teresa holds Associate Professor Public Examinations in the scientific area of Production Technology and Construction of Mechanical Engineering Department of Polytechnic University of Tomar (IPT), with the Dissertation title "Study of the influence of stress concentration factor in damage calculation of transport coal wagons railway couplings". 

Professor since October 1993, Teresa has taken different positions as a Member of the UNIRE Executive Committee; Scientific Council Plenary and School' Technical Scientific Council; Technical Scientific Councils of Research Centers (UNIRE, CINAV, CIC-LNEC, LNEC, UNIDEMI-FCT/UNL, CeFEMA-IST-UL, ICEMS-IST-UL); Commission for Evaluation and Accreditation of Mechanical Engineering course, Engineering Departmental Unit Council, Internship Nucleus Member, Council of Mechanical Engineering Department, and Pedagogical Council. Teresa was also the Pedagogical Coordinator of the Mechanical Engineering course. 

Throughout her career, Teresa has been an organizer at dozens of international and national conferences as a member of Advisory Committees, Local Organizing Committees, and International Scientific Committees. 
She was the Chair of the 5th International Conference on Quality Innovation and Sustainability (ICQIS 2024) and XIV Meeting of Quality Researchers - RIQUAL 2024 local member/Organising Committee. She is a local member/Organising Committee of the IRF2025 – 8th International Conference Integrity-Reliability-Failure in Engineering, Materials, Manufacturing and Biomechanics.

Teresa's expertise and research interests are Mechanical Behaviour of Materials, Mechanics of Fracture, Experimental Stress Analysis, Mechanical Tests, Structural Integrity of Materials, Instrumentation, Additive Manufacturing Processes namely LASER Cladding process and SLM, Foundry Processes, Injection Processes such as Rheocasting and HPDC, Extrusion Processes and Maintenance Management. 

She is currently consolidating her position as a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Lisbon Higher Institute of Engineering (ISEL)/ Polytechnic University of Lisbon as a research member of UnIRE - Unit for Innovation and Research in Engineering/ISEL, UNIDEMI/ FCTUNL - Research and Development Unit for Mechanical and Industrial Engineering/ Faculty of Science and Technology - Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, and of Navy Research Center (CINAV) /Naval Academy Faculty - Portugal. 

From September 2019 until July 2020, Teresa was a Researcher at the Scientific Instrumentation Centre of the R&D Institute called LNEC. Teresa consolidated her position in LNEC with a professor in the IPT through mobility intercareer.

Since 2017, Teresa has been a researcher at UNIDEMI-FCT/UNL. From 2016 until the end of 2018, Teresa consolidated her position in IPT with a Professor in the FCTUNL by mobility intercareer. 

From 2014 until 2016, Teresa was President of Forum and an Integrated Researcher at CeFEMA/UL - Center of Physics and Engineering of Advanced Materials of IST/UL - Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon University. She was an Integrated Research Member at ICEMS/UL - Institute of Materials and Surface Science and Engineering/ University of Lisbon from 2001 until 2014. In IST, she collaborated as a researcher for twenty years. 

Teresa is the author and co-author of dozens of scientific publications and technical consulting reports and has guided dozens of jobs in industry internships like foundries, the food industry, the automotive industry, the railway industry, hospitals, the metalworking industry, the paper industry, industrial moulds, and injection plastic materials industry. 

Teresa is an editor of the Experimental Mechanic Journal and dozens of Special Issues in international journals. Teresa is also the author of dozens of special sessions at international conferences.

Teresa is a permanent member of several societies such as the Order of Engineers (OE), Materials Portuguese Association (SPM), Portuguese Society for Experimental Analysis of Stress (APAET), European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS) and Ibero-American Federation of Mechanical Engineering (FeIbIm/FelbEm), ATTCEI (Portuguese Association of Knowledge and Technology Transfer), RIQUAL (Quality Researchers Network), EASN (European Aeronautics Science Network), European Society for Experimental Mechanics (EuraSEM).
