Professor Coordenador no Departamento de Engenharia Informática (DEI). Doutor em Engenharia Eletrotécnica e de Computadores (2014), Mestre em Engenharia Eletrotécnica e de Computadores (2003), Licenciado em Engenharia Eletrotécnica - Sistemas e Comunicações (1999). Docente no ISEL desde 1999; entre 1999 e 2025 prestou serviço no DEETC e desde 2025 presta serviço no DEI.

Coordenador do Curso de Licenciatura em Engenharia Informática e de Computadores (LEIC) do DEI, desde junho de 2018. Coordenador do grupo disciplinar Projeto da LEIC desde dezembro de 2021. Desde 2024 que integra a equipa do ISEL para a criação do curso de Licenciatura em Informática e Economia dos Dados (LIED), numa parceria ISEL-ISCAL.

Os seus principais interesses de investigação incluem inteligência artificial, aprendizagem automática, biometria, bioinformática, processamento digital de sinais, reconhecimento de padrões, seleção de caraterísticas e discretização de caraterísticas. Investigador integrado no Centro de Projeto Mecânico (CPM) do IDMEC/LAETA, no Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa. Colaborador externo no Instituto de Telecomunicações - Pólo de Lisboa, no Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa.

Membro do Editorial Board do Elsevier's Applied Soft Computing Journal entre 2017 e 2025. Atualmente é membro do Comité Científico de seis conferências internacionais (ASPAI, DATA, EXPLAINS, ICPRAM, ICAART e NCTA).

Editor de atas de conferências em quatro ocasiões e editor/coeditor/editor convidado de revistas internacionais em sete ocasiões. Autor/coautor de cerca de 100 publicações com revisão por pares, incluindo capítulos de livro, artigos em revistas internacionais, atas de conferências internacionais e nacionais. Desde 2002 orientou cerca de 80 Trabalhos Finais de Licenciatura e 31 Trabalhos Finais de Mestrado.

Membro da COST Action CA22137 - Randomised Optimisation Algorithms Research Network (ROAR-NET). Membro da Associação Portuguesa de Reconhecimento de Padrões (APRP) e da Ordem dos Engenheiros (OE).

Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering (DEI). PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering (2014), MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering (2003), and BSc in Electrical Engineering – Systems and Communications (1999). Lecturer at ISEL since 1999; between 1999 and 2025 served in DEETC, and since 2025 has been serving in DEI.

Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering (LEIC) at DEI since June 2018. Coordinator of the LEIC Project disciplinary group since December 2021. Since 2024, member of the ISEL team responsible for creating the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Data Economics , a partnership between ISEL and ISCAL.

His main research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, biometrics, bioinformatics, digital signal processing, pattern recognition, feature selection, and feature discretization. Integrated researcher at the Centre for Mechanical Engineering (CPM) of IDMEC/LAETA, at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon. External collaborator at the Institute of Telecommunications – Lisbon branch, at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon.

Member of the Editorial Board of Elsevier’s Applied Soft Computing Journal from 2017 to 2025. Currently a member of the Scientific Committee of six international conferences (ASPAI, DATA, EXPLAINS, ICPRAM, ICAART, and NCTA) and of the Editorial Board of four international journals (MDPI Applied Sciences, MDPI Information, MDPI Journal of Imaging, and MDPI Algorithms).

Proceedings editor of conferences on four occasions and editor/co-editor/guest editor of international journals on seven occasions. Author/co-author of around 100 peer-reviewed publications, including book chapters, articles in international journals, and papers in international and national conference proceedings.

Since 2002, he has supervised approximately 80 undergraduate final projects and 31 master’s theses.
