Intended learning outcomes
General Chemistry address issues of fundamental knowledge in Chemistry, providing the students the requirements to support a sustained development of the course. Therefore, the students will acquire the following specific chemical knowledge and transferable skills:
- Understand atomic structure, periodicity of elements in the periodic table, and simple quantum mechanical treatments of atoms and molecules.
- Identify the different types of chemical bond, their theories and application.
- Structurally characterize and predict geometries of molecular species.
- Relate macroscopic properties of various states of matter to intermolecular forces.
- Understand the behavior and properties of all types of crystalline solids.
- Predict the evolution of chemical systems and the energies involved: an introduction to thermodynamics
- Understand the construction and functionalities of electrochemical cells.
