Intended learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student shall:

  1. Critically evaluate the theories and concepts of molecular pharmacogenomics, demonstrating how the principles of molecular biology can explain genetic basis variability in drug response.
  2. Articulate the principles of translational pharmacogenetics and evaluate the ethical issues raised in various specialized pharmacological treatment techniques.
  3. Critically evaluate different approaches in gene therapy to treat monogenic and complex diseases.
  4. Describe the use of gene editing technologies as a therapeutic intervention.
  5. Identify and discuss the principles of epigenetics and applications in diagnostic and therapy.
  6. Describe the principles and discuss applications of genomics, proteomics and metabolomics in the research of diagnostic biomarkers and in the development of innovative drugs.
  7. Apply bioinformatics tools in the analysis of genomic data.
