The purpose of this subject is to fit the education in the area of hydraulic schemes namely dams and their safety and exploitation hydraulic structures, through the development of skills of conception and project which are revealed in the following abilities:

1. to identify and interpret conceptual solutions of different structures relating them with physical and environmental restrictions, with social-economic benefits and with safety and exploitation aspects, as well.
2. to carry out stability analysis of concrete gravity dams on undeformable foundations;
3. to develop hydraulic design of overflow spillway, chute spillway, energy dissipators and temporary fluvial deviation works in pipes with open channel flow
4. to have an integrated view of outlet works and intakes in hydraulic schemes
5. to recognize the hydromechanics equipment wich are more used in hydraulic schemes
