The occurrence of natural and technological disasters, the emergence of pandemics and the use of chemical products in industry and agriculture have brutal impacts on the lives of entire communities and require immediate and effective responses from the competent authorities. This response requires the existence of multifaceted professionals with effective skills and tools in the management of crises and disasters.
The Disaster Risk Engineering and Management postgraduate course is an innovative course in the Portuguese context and covers all stages of disaster risk management, with a special focus on the engineering and technology perspectives. Its main objective is to train highly qualified professionals, equipped with specific knowledge and tools for crisis and disaster management. It is aimed at professionals working in the areas of civil and environmental engineering, geology, architecture, public administration and city management and will allow its graduates to acquire skills that enable them to develop efficient prevention, mitigation, assessment and response strategies in emergency situations.
The course was developed in accordance with the guidelines of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, endorsed by the UN.
