Ana Rita Gião holds a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering/Structures from NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA) (2012), a M.Sc. degree in Structural Engineering (2001) and a Licenciatura in Civil Engineering (5 year degree) from School of Engineering and Technology (IST) of University of Lisbon (1996).
She is Professor at the Civil Engineering Department of Higher Engineering Institute of Lisbon (ISEL), Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, lecturing courses within the Structural area of expertise. Her research work is within the Structures Strengthening domain, belonging to the Structural and Geotechnical Research Group (RG6) of the R&D Unit - ICIST/CERIS. She participates in R&D projects funded by Science and Technology Foundation and Industry companies, has several Scientific Publications with peer review and supervises Master and PhD students.
She has professional experience as a structural design engineer, namely collaboration in design projects of prestressed and precast reinforced concrete buildings and special structures, maritime and port structures (1997-2005). In the professional consulting domain, her main domain of activity is the assessment and characterization of existing structures behaviour.
Main areas of interest: reinforced concrete structures; strengthening of structures; seismic behaviour; experimental tests.
