Intended learning outcomes
This course introduces to students the working principles of the most common solid-fluid unit operations that can be found in chemical/biological industries.
By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
- Understand the physical principles involved in industrial operations that manipulates exclusively solids, as: size reduction operations, classification and transport.
- Understand the theoretical principles involved in fluid motion through solids and solids motion in fluids, and characterize some unit operations based on those principles.
- Understand and characterize other important solid-liquid unit operations as: lixiviation, crystallization and solids drying.
- Be able to perform equipment sizing as well optimize the working conditions of the considered unit operations.
