Intended learning outcomes
The aims of the course consist of providing solid concepts on the nanotechnology field and biosensors aind their applications in biomedical engineering and medicine. The students should be able to comprehend:
- The main classes of nanomaterials, nanostructures and devices fabricated by techniques of nanotechnology with applications in biomedical engineering, biotechnology, and medicine;
- The main techniques of micro- and nanofabrication;
- The main methods of characterization and manipulation of nanostructures;
- The main developments of nanodevices in the biomedical field;
- Ethical and social issues related to the development of nanotechnology;
- The elements in a biosensor device and the main biosensor classes;
- The techniques used for the transduction of the biochemical signal produced by a biosensing device;
- The main techniques used for the bioreceptor immobilization;
- Application of biosensors in biomedical engineering, biotechnology and medicine.
