Intended learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course unit will be able to:
- Understand Internet of Things (IoT) fundamentals;
- Characterize the components that make up a "thing" as an embedded system (sensor / actuator, microcontroller and communications interface);
- Understand the challenges associated with the design and optimization of an embedded sensor / actuation system;
- Understand the different low-power wireless technologies and the different protocols associated with IoT;
- Plan an IoT infrastructure;
- Integrate data obtained from an IoT platform using normalized APIs;
- Define requirements and methods for extracting knowledge from raw data;
- Understand IoT's security and privacy challenges;
- Build and substantiate the business model and respective return on investment of an IoT use case.
