Intended learning outcomes
Upon approval, the student should be able to:
- Characterize the fossil and renewable resources for the chemical industry, their use and limitations in a sustainable perspective.
- Identify and describe the main chemical/biological processes related to the crude oil, natural gas and coal processing industries and downstream petrochemical industries and integrated biorefineries.
- Understand and describe the main (bio)synthetic routes and industrial processes leading to chemical and biologic products.
- Understand the need for the development of greener and integrated chemical and/or biological processes as part of the tools to drive sustainability through innovation.
- Identify and understand most common environmental, health and safety issues when considering industrial processes and evaluate alternative materials and processes based on green engineering principles and metrics.
