António Jorge Silvestre is Coordinator Professor in the Department of Physics of Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, and Invited Associate Professor in the Department of Physics of Instituto Superior Técnico. He graduated in Physics from the University of Lisbon, where he also obtained a Ph.D. in Physics.
He is a member of the Center of Physics and Engineering of Advanced Materials - CeFEMA. His current scientific interests include the synthesis of functional oxides (e.g. transition metal doped TiO2 and SnO2, CrO2, Fe3O4,) by chemical and physical methods, and their structural, optical, electrical and magnetic characterization. He has also been interested in the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials with potential application in the photodegradation of organic pollutants.
Along with his R&D activities, he has also been active in educational Physics subjects with several published works. He was awarded the IST diploma of “Excellence in Teaching” a number of times.
