Patrícia D. Barata graduated from Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa in Industrial Chemical Engineering, received her M.Sc. in Technological Organic Chemistry and her Ph.D. in Sustainable Chemistry both from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

She is an Adjunct Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department, teaching in the Organic and Inorganic Chemistry Section and collaborates with Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde de Lisboa in the in Orthotics area. She participates as a trainer in the Training Course for Chemical Analysts from Project 9ºW - Hovione.

She is currently an integrated member of the Chemistry Center - Vila Real at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, member of ISEL Editorial Board and Vice-President of Center for Chemical Engineering Studies. She was a member of the Coordinating Commission of Chemical and Biological Engineering Degree Program.

Her research interests focus the area of Supramolecular Chemistry particularly of systems containing calixarenes and their applications as sensors for explosives, biomolecules, and metals. In parallel her research involves the sustainable study of fluorescent carbon nanomaterials (C-dots) from renewable natural resources.
