Paulo Teixeira is a theoretical soft matter physicist. His research interests include liquid crystals, foams, polymers, elastomers and colloids. Hr gained a first degree (1987), a master's (1990) and a Habilitation (2006) in Physics from the University of Lisbon, and a PhD (1993) from the University of Southampton. He held post-doctoral appointments in Amsterdam (1993-1996), Cambridge (1996-1998), Leeds (1998-2000) and Lisbon's Instituto Superior Técnico (2000-2001).  He was an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering of the Catholic University of Portugal (2001-2006) before joining the Department of Physics at ISEL, and the Centre for Theoretical and Computational Physics (CFTC) at Lisbon University, in 2006.

Paulo will occasionally translate popular science books. .He is one of the first batch of Outstanding Referees of the American Physical Society (2008).
